Author Topic: Suspicious item found in a scan using HijackThis.  (Read 720 times)

The highlighted item looks like a registry value involving Kernel fault checks. This is never a good thing, so I was just wondering if this was in any way bad. Everything else looks normal, just processes and other safe registry values.

So, is this bad?

Windows Error Reporting Dump Reporting Tool.  Found on Windows XP/2003.  It shows as a startup item whose execution line usually reads as "KernelFaultCheck" %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 –k.  DUMPREP creates memory dump reports that you can send to Microsoft if you answer "Yes" when prompted to send such reports.

And, as I expected, Ethan gives a full blown explanation for this. Thanks.

lol stuffty apps of course cant determine if something is good or bad.

It's better than scrolling through your whole registry to find something suspicious.

I actually like HijackThis, its not bad at all.

With FileASSASSIN and Process Explorer, you're a virus killing machine. <3

repair all errors in a registry scan. all of them are just expired and are junk to bog the system.
no program can tell you whats good or bad in there.

and i certainly dont even trust anti virus programs as well. those dumb things block every other website for no reason other then another user out there might have reported it out of ignorance.
