Author Topic: Who wants to help name a professional game company? Please take a look.  (Read 1806 times)

Okay, so my dad's been hired to create a name for a game company.
He's asked me for help, and I'm now asking you for help.
Here are the instructions.
Quote
The company is a game publisher that will make online, free-to-play games, like Zynga, but high-quality, like EA. They'll be the first company to make high-quality online games. The antidote to Farmville.

Here's what the company had to say with regard to its name:

Drivers for name - company facts:

Creative led organization

Global Publisher

Quality is our biz plan

Free is our business model

Our games will reach 100M+ people each - we are mass market

Focused on Gamer audience

Games are always connected, social, multiplayer experiences

We are a service provider not a manufacturer

Guiding tones:

Abstract - we prefer to literal

Unique - within games and online entertainment, we want to stand out

Classic - we are going to be around for a long time and want our content seen as classics

Vintage - We are looking back in time for gameplay inspiration

Ambition - Zynga's IPO is but our starting point.  :)

Organic - connected to people, real, substantive, part of the natural way of things

Playful - Excite, intrigue, compel, scare, laugh, cry;  We're about easy fun

Names we like:

Bellum

Neptune

Galea

Tora!

WeHoo

Zwang

Balboa

Clowd

Ether

DaD - Delicious and delightful and initially pointed at Dad's - males older than 25

Kai Games

Hutt

Buckland

Kazon

Here are things that resonate with some of the attributes we like around our name and ID.

To revise that list:   Fun, playful and organic yet speaks to depth and quality.

Some examples of names we like:

KaBam -  Fun, loud and explosive.   The fact that it's a sound feels organic.  Speaks to their positioning around gamers, it's unique and memorable.  The comic book genesis also speaks to the audience

Twitter - It's organic, it captures the essence of the product.  it's light and easy and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Pixar - More about the ID than the name.  There's an irreverence and sense of humor to it but it never lets you forget the incredible attention to detail that speaks to quality.

Four Seasons - Of all the high end hotels and resorts of the world, their name and corporate ID are the least heavy and ostentatious.   It evokes quality not the in a heavy man made way but a more zen like natural approach

Apple - Whimsical, abstract and organic.  The perfection of an apple is the perfection of their product.

Gogogogo.

We make a name.

Your father gets credit and money.

Why hire someone that can't do the job they were given (that or you want to wow your dad with a name we made and claim it for yourself). Go away. >:I

It seems like such a plan will be difficult and money-consuming. How do you expect to make money off of completely free games? And especially with all that server power you'll need.

He's come up with around 200 names at this point. Trust me, he's really good at this sort of stuff. He's just asking me, because I'm of... you know, the gaming generation, and I'm seeing if you guys can also come up with anything.
These are the names I have:
Joybuzz
Zappit
Shockpad
Mindhook
Emberen
Storm Chaser Games
Terrad
Bonfire
VivaVoce
Aptus

Emberen is the only good one out of that.

Cheesy Games
If I ever had a gaming company I would name it this :|

;-;
Terrad isn't bad, the others are just kinda bland, and not out there like most of those on the first list.
