Author Topic: Internet Connection Dropping [Help]  (Read 1569 times)

Ok so my internet has been handicapped for a very, very long time. For the longest time we had D-Link DIR-655 but eventually our connection would completely drop and we had to reset power the router in order to get it running again. We called up Comcast and they couldnt find any problems, but they ran a new cable line to our house just in case. We continued having the problem, so we figured it was our router. We went out and bought a Belkin N600 dual band router. The drops continued with the 2.5Ghz connection, however my dad (The only one with a dual band network card) was still able to connect to the 5Ghz. We went out and traded the Belkin for a Netgear WNDR3700v2 and this is our current router, however we are still experiencing network drops with the 2.5Ghz connection which is the only connection me and my sister can get. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I tried to Google it and failed, but if someone else is able to find a result then please post!

Other info:
My network card:
D-Link DWA552

My sisters network card:
D-Link DWA-542

Try changing the channel the router is transmitting on.

How do I do this? Im guessing somewhere in the routers homepage thing?

Open up a command prompt, enter ipconfig and hit return. Your default gateway should be 192.168.1.254 (Just making sure it's the same as everyone). If this is the case, enter that number into your address bar on your browser (If it's not the same as mine then enter whatever number that pops up).
It should be in a section like Home Network>Wireless or something similar.

Right now the 2.5Ghz is on Auto and the 5Ghz is on 44

What should I change the 2.5Ghz to? Anything?

Just change your channel for now. I find I pick up my modem/router much better when it's on channels 8 or 11.

Alrighty, I changed it to 8 lets hope this fixes it :o

Thanks <3

Didnt work it dropped again while I was in San Francisco

maybe it a problem with the wire connecting the router to the wall?

wait what kind of connection is it? (like DSL and what not, i dont know what kind of connection comcast uses)

I dont know. It comes from our cable cord I think, is that what DSL is?

yes, but i think it could also be T1 (considerng that comcast advertises for speeds that are faster than DSL)

Holy crap dude I have the EXACT same issue. Our internet just randomly blinks out, and then I have to wait 10 minutes or so for it to go back on. I have the same D-Link, so if you find a solution PM me, I my dad and I are both completely confused. I'll search it up too, expect a few replies.
