Actually its going to be $700+ unless you have an extra copy of XP and an extra monitor.

Got XP disk and monitor.

Is your monitor 16:9 or 16:10?

NONONONONO
Don't install XP.
It's super outdated now, and there's no point buying a 6870 if you're just going to install XP as XP only supports up to DirectX 9. It would be a big mistake.

yeah get W7
it's so good

though you do have to get used to the new forgetass windows explorer
once you're used to it though (which doesn't take long), it's really nice

he would have to buy w7 tho

It's only $100 on Newegg if you get Home Premium 64bit OEM (please do).
It is worth it.

I think it's kind of weird that they call the lowest edition "premium"
lol

Well with Vista, wasn't there a Home Basic?
Also Starter is the lowest edition.

I'll be looking into 7, decided to get a better vid card:

Yes, my laptop is using basic right now. Only down side is no aero and no media center.
