I'm an agnostic. Which means that I don't believe in a deity, but I don't reject the possibility of a deity existing, either.

Some of the scientific explanations are really hard to understand, and to some problems, science doesn't even have a solution. Like the "first mover" thing. What exactly caused the Big Bang? How can it have started, if time and causality didn't exist until after the Big Bang? Those are the kind of questions that suggest the existance of something "holy".

Because god placed this planet on just the perfect orbit around a star. You know. Like all those other hundreds of similar planets around the universe that orbit the habitable zone of a star.

The only thing the habitable zone proves is that life can't inhabit inhabitable places. Go figure.

Think about these things though... The Earth was placed at the perfect distance from the sun to sustain life - chance? A few miles more or less and human life would be impossible. That's only one example of the many miracles that seem extremrly unlikely to have occurred by chance alone.

Argh. Every time I hear that argument it ticks me off. Of course to us it seems like this really amazing thing that we are just at the right distance from a star where it is not too cold and not too hot. That is because life as we know it cannot exist at any other distance from a star! Every start has it's own habitable zone around it at which water can exist as liquid. Planets that have orbits within that zone are the only ones that, as far as we know, can support intelligent life. So there can't be any humans around in some barren rock planet thinking "Well this sucks, we are way too far away from our star so it's freezing in here" because they would not be able to exist in such a planet.

Good question. There are several reasons. First there would need to be a habitable planet with an intelligent enough alien life form that is capable of space travel. Okay, not necessarily too hard to find.

Another problem is distances. The distances between stars out there in the universe are enormous. You would need to have a spaceship capable of velocities near light speed. (Roughly 300 000 kilometers per second.) Even at those speeds it would take hundreds, thousands or even millions of years for them to fly here.

Then comes the main problem. How slow light actually travels. Yes. Slow. Right now when we look at the night sky we see stars. We see those stars as they were millions or billions of years ago. One of those stars could have exploded 50 million years ago and we could still see the light coming from it. When an alien race out there takes a look at Earth (Another big problem, we are just one planet of many and there is no reason to look at us.) they see Earth as it was millions or billions of years ago. Barren. Lifeless. The aliens have no reason to specifically come to Earth when there are millions of identical barren lifeless planets everywhere.

So I got bored and thought that I would share some of my opinions about religion.

Before I start, I want to let you know that I'm an atheist. If thats all you wanted to know, thats fine, but next im going to tell you why.

#1: Churches. Churches are the #1 thing that have ruined religion for me. This is mainly because its boring! Like seriously, why do I have to spend 2 hours sitting in an uncomfortable chair listening to blabber. All they ever talk about is "God is good", but never give us a reason why.

This isn't a good reason to be anti-church. People find genuine meaning in churches. The Masses at the Catholic Church I've attended in the past were beautiful and even today when I'm and atheist and I'm forced to go, I can still take life-lessons from it and apply it to my own life. But yes, the priest/preacher will give you religion without anything to back it up because he doesn't have to. Everyone in there is most likely religious.

#2: Praying. Seriously, probably the most annoying thing christians do. I mean, in my opinion all praying is is just talking to yourself and expecting an answer, which never comes.

I agree, the method that has been accepted as the way God answers prayers guarantees that they will always feel like they have received one. The concept of the answers "yes" "no" and "wait" makes it impossible to feel like you didn't get an answer.

#3: "Blessing food". I guess this could go along with praying, but I feel it deserves another number. Like seriously, nothings worse than going out to eat and getting a huge juicy steak, only to have to bow your head and hold hands while smelling the damned thing. I mean, seriously, when Im hungry I wanna eat my stuff.

You're hungry and want to eat your stuff isn't a good reason to diminish giving thanks for your food. Yes it is pointless but it seems you are backing this up with the wrong reasons.

#4: Creation of our world. This is another thing that gets on my nerves. Sometimes when my dad gets in an argument with an atheist about god, all I hear is "Oh yeah? Then how was our world formed?" Seriously, i dont give a stuff how our world was formed, and where we go when we die. All i care about is that im here now.

Ok, most Christians believe in the theories that modern science proposes like the big bang for example. They reconcile this by saying that some stories in the Bible are metaphorical and not literal. Therefore, that gives them the "ok" to say that God made the Big Bang occur. Also, I give a stuff where we came from and what happens after we die. They're deep philosophical questions. If your dad is close-minded and rejects new information just to maintain his believe then that paragraph is justified. Just realize that not all Christians believe this.

#5: Knowing that Im not in control of my future. Sometimes in church my pastor says things like "God has a plan, and you're part of it! Before god even created the Heavens and the Earth, he knew what your life was going to be like!" Quite frankly, I like being in control, and not knowing that my life is to go a certain way.

I pretty much agree with this.

#6: God loves everyone. Now this is complete bullstuff. Its impossible to love everyone. I mean, how can god look down on the world, seeing Flash Mobers,  and still love them? Lives lost, families ruined, fatherless/motherless children, people scared forever.

I fail to see how the fact of him loving everyone is so far-fetched. However, I will agree on the fact that if he allows these things to happen that is a form of malevolence from his part. 

#7: Its impossible for god to exist. I find it hard to believe god exists, i mean, it is literally impossible for someone to be alive sense the beginning of time. I mean, it hurts my head even thinking about it. Something or someone had to create him, and then something/someone had to created. Ill just leave it at that, because its hard to word.

I agree.

#8 We must live our lives for god. Now this just pisses me off. Christians say all the time "We must live our lives for god! He sent his son to die for us!" I find it bullstuff. Why would god create us, only for us to worship him forever?

I agree. I don't want to throw my valuable life at something that isn't real.

I don't believe everything is so many billions of years old, but this seems valid... somehow.
