Author Topic: Help a technologically.. slow individual find a laptop!  (Read 1419 times)

( I know you guys enjoy these. )

I've been looking to get a good netbook or decent notebook. I've looked at the 'best netbook' list and all, since those are probably the ones closer to my price range. I'm not really the best at.. technology.. in most cases, and I'd rather not buy some piece of stuff laptop that is overpriced or something. So, here's what I'm looking for basically.

- Great Netbook or decent Notebook.
- Preferably under 400$.
- Ability to run some simple games, nothing like Call of Duty and stuff, more like Blockland and Terraria, if that.
- 200+ GB of memory.
- 1+ GB of ram.
- Built in mic would be nice, as well as a webcam. Not necessary, but wanted.
- Getting too hot underneath, beside the vent and stuff, is very annoying. Would be great to get one that stays cool.
- Portability would also be nice.

Thanks c:

Iffy about if it can run Blockland and such efficiently. Just because some things surpass requirements doesn't mean others do, or that they all match up in a way to allow it...

Yeah. The graphics card is probably the only thing that I really dislike about that. I could probably save up an extra few $70, and get a decent Nvidia card for laptops, and have someone replace it. I'd probably get someone to help not only picking it out, but I have a friend who can replace it if I find one.

Good luck finding one.

If you're doing heavy tasks and you have a fan with some crap accumulated, there's no way to avoid heat. The best thing you can do is blow out the fan with an air compressor/canned air, or pop open the case (unfortunately may void the warranty) and clean it out yourself.

As for the one you're looking at, my laptop has an Intel GMA 4500, which I'm assuming is in the same range as the GMA in that one. It's garbage, just like most onboard video cards/chipsets, but I can run Blockland fine up to about 70k bricks on medium-high settings.

Anything from acer.
hahahahno

I spent some time looking around, this time for notebooks instead of netbooks, and I was actually quite pleased.

I found a Toshiba Satellite C655D-S5135 for $422. This is more of a 'tell me if this looks like a good laptop'.
Specs
Brand Name: Toshiba
Processor Manufacturer: AMD
Processor Model: E-240
Processor Speed: 1.50 GHz
Processor Core: Single-core

Hard Drive Capacity: 320 GB
Optical Drive Type: DVD-Writer
Optical Media Support: DVD-RAM/?R/?RW
Dual-Layer Media Support: Yes
Screen Size: 15.6"
Display Screen Type: Active Matrix TFT Color LCD
Display Screen Technology: TruBrite
Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Screen Mode: WXGA
Backlight Technology: LED
Screen Resolution: 1366 x 768
Graphics Controller Manufacturer: AMD
Graphics Controller Model: Radeon HD 6310
Graphics Memory Capacity: 947 MB
Graphics Memory Accessibility: Shared
Ethernet Technology: Fast Ethernet

I really think this one is nice for the price.. It is similar to the one I'm on, if not better. More memory in the hard drive, as well as .5 more ram. Anyone want to tell me how nice the graphics card is xD?

Next, I found a Compaq CQ62-209WM for $329. I use Compaq for a desktop, and I've had nothing but good experiences.

Specs
Memory-                    3GB DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM)
Memory Max-                8GB
Video Graphics-            ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 Graphics
Video Memory-              Up to 1405MB
Hard Drive-                250GB (7200RPM)
Multimedia Drive-          LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support

Now, what I really need is to know is to go with the more expensive one, or save myself some 90$ to spend elsewhere. Should I get either? Are they both bad for the price? Gah I'm so clueless D:
