but also Garage Games.

He works with GarageGames I think though.

The other $10 goes to Garage Games.

I quit garage games like 2 years ago.  It's all Blockland now.

Why is Blockland not on Steam? Probably a cost/benefit brown townysis by either Valve or by Badspot determined it wouldn't be worth it.

Positives:
  • Exposure to an enormous audience, perhaps resulting in thousands of new sales
  • No direct cost per download or update as Steam's servers would take the load
  • Free Steam-hosted forums (if he wanted to ditch these)

Negatives:
  • Valve gets a cut of the profits
  • Investment of time integrating Steamworks
  • Massive increase in support burden due to a varied, global audience
  • Would probably have to give up current authentication system
  • No turning back. He wouldn't be able to revoke keys, ignore customers, or just leave the game to work on something else
  • Would it affect modding?

Keep in mind that even hit indie titles like Minecraft aren't for sale on Steam. It isn't always the best option for a company. By "running your own ship" you can control your sales, releases, and support all from one location rather than trying to sail two smaller ships (two distribution systems) at once.

What about it do you hate so much?

It constantly wants me to login for offline mode, or the blob forgets up, or games update or stop working or some bullstuff. Steam forces people to use the internet for their games.

I highly doubt that putting Blockland on Steam would affect add-ons or modding in any way at all.

After BL v20 is released.
After RTB4 is released.
After Badspot majorly upgrades the master server.

Then maybe.

  • Investment of time integrating Steamworks
Nope, you don't have to use SteamWorks to sell your game on Steam.

  • Would probably have to give up current authentication system
Nope.

  • No turning back. He wouldn't be able to revoke keys, ignore customers, or just leave the game to work on something else
If he keeps the current authentication system he can still revoke keys just like before.

  • Would it affect modding?
Nope.

I am rather sure that some Mojang representative stated that Mojang's reason for not being on Steam was that they wanted to create their own community, or something like that.

Voted no.
Too tired to argue why and the only reason I'm posting this is to see if my answer is the same after I take a nap.

I vote we put it on Xbox Marketplace, since it already supports Torque games. :cookieMonster: Oh wait, that was suggested to... What happened to all that discussion? How about PlayStation Network...? Nope... Well, I don't think anyone has suggested putting it on OnLive!

An example of too many things being linked into a mainstream system is Facebook. Nowadays, you can watch a commercial and it is highly likely they will refer you to a Facebook page about them. There is also a likelihood that their own website is actually just a Facebook page. Of course there can be benefits to practices like these, but people start to act like it's a requirement when it's just one thing that can be more complicated than it needs to be...

I totally, utterly forgeted up the above, I'm sure. I didn't know how to explain and connect my examples. And I don't feel like rewriting it now... Been up all night.

What if when you buy the game you get emailed a username and password then you can change user/pass on blockland.us and you sign in with that when you open Blockland? :0

Or you can register on blockland.us and then you can buy the game, then open Blockland and login with what you registered with and change your ingame name from there

What? You buy the game from Steam and you get a key for Blockland. That is all. Forum registrations are not required and have nothing to do with Steam.

I don't know how this would go over with the steam community, but put the Demo on steam (for free) and make whoever wanted the full version but a key off of the bl site.

Why not put Age of Time on Steam, and on the Age of Time website have Blockland advertised?
somethin like that, maybe?

They forgeted up Alliance of Valiant Arms :v
