Author Topic: Adventure Challenge  (Read 1677 times)

Hello! I'm starting on my Blockland challenge project.

This challenge has 6 worlds, and there will be 8 levels in each. So therefore, it will have 48 levels in total. I already finished Stage 1-1.

Here are a few pictures.

I do need some good builders and eventers to help.

EDIT 7/31/11: I just finished 2 levels already. Still behind.

Looks interesting.

I can help you with events, I'm great at them.

Cool, you can come when I'm gonna continue on working on this.

Oh and I want to finish this before school starts, so I'm gonna need a lot of people to help.

PM me next time you get the server up.

Doesn't look that good.

Yeah, especially by the pictures.  It's a pic of what appears to be the entrance with some very poor terrain, what appears to be an easter egg and where you select levels.  Which again looks like a poorly built gray room box.

And by his vague description I'm going to say that this build doesn't even have a theme or any original ideas to make the challenge fun at all.

Here are a few levels I made. And I'm sorry for making a poor terrain.

Stage 1-1 Sorry about the car. It's not supposed to be here.

Stage 1-2

Stage 1-3

Stage 1-4

Stage 1-5

More coming soon. Plus this theme is the Green Hills.

That looks more interesting but I don't understand the premise of most of them.

On most levels, you need to get the key to unlock doors. It's simple. On 1-3, you just try to jump on dissapearing bricks and on 1-4, those dark grey cones are spikes so you have to jump over them.

Eh. Those concepts are very boring.  Jump challenges get very old very quick, they all have the same exact gameplay only varying from a few things:  What you're jumping over, how hard it is to jump over it, and the environment you're jumping in.

If you can create really fun puzzles or utilize a certain mod to make a challenge out of it's a lot more fun.  A jumping challenge level here or there is not bad, they make great fillers.  But puzzles and creative concepts are a lot more fun.

Edit: oh god I almost forgot about... Luck challenges...  Ugh these are the worst.  If there's a challenge any worse than a jump challenge, it's a challenge entirely based on luck.  If you have a bunch of doors and only one of them doesn't kill you, that's stupid.  Everyone is going to get through it at one point or another.  It's completely based on luck or trial and error.  That's just really awful and quite frustrating to play.

I don't know if you have any luck challenges in your build right now, but if you do just remove them...  If you really have an urge to put one in don't do any more than one or two, and only do it if you're REALLY desperate for ideas.  They are not fun to play on by any means at all and usually take forever to get through, they really are just a pure waste of time.

We're doing 1-6 right now. And it's a puzzle. We're trying to make it so it's not easy to solve.

Good :)

But don't make the puzzle hard to accomplish, just hard to solve.  If the puzzle is easy to figure out to do but really hard to execute, that's just frustrating.  But if a puzzle works your creativity and problem solving skills but is easy to execute once you figure it out, that's a lot of fun.

Oh and BTW, we added conveyors on 1-4.

Interesting. I couldn't help, yet I'm not to great with landforms. Atleast, that looks like the type of theme this challenge will be.
