So I was thinking about starting up a Minecraft server soon and wanted to know some things about RAM.
1. Is 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM good? (I clicked on "About my Mac" and thats what came up, and I just copy and pasted it.)
2. What exactly does RAM do?
3. Does the amount of RAM you put into a server make it faster?
4. Is there anyway to give my macbook more RAM if needed? (I assume not.)
5. Do I even have enough RAM to run a server?

1. No, not really. It's not alot of capacity and it's slow.
2. Things that the computer needs to access quickly are loaded into the RAM so they don't have to be found on the harddrive (this takes much longer).
3. Only if you actually use that RAM. When the system runs out of RAM, it stores things on the harddrive. This is slower to access and your computer will seem slower.
4. Yes. Looks up it's specs using Apple's serial # lookup and it should tell you the max amount of RAM and type of RAM.
5. Not really sure about minecraft. Maybe for just a few people.

1.Not really.
2.It stores short term memory.
3.Yes, but after 4 GBs it doesn't really matter.
4.Not sure, I used a Mac but never
liked
owned one.
5.Yes, but I wouldn't recommend running a server on your main computer.

Just to be clear, 4GB of RAM is generally considered the limit of what most people will use. Even when gaming I don't think I've used my 4GB up. However, some people may need more - particularly for things like HD video editing.

You can't run a decent Minecraft server with 2GB of RAM. My server is kinda slow running 4GB.

Back when I hosted a server for me and about 4 or 5 friends, 1GB allocated to the server was more than enough. However, 2gb total on the computer will probably not be enough to run the server, a client, and whatever background programs you run.
