So I was wondering, which is better, GIMP or ~~mspaint~~ Paint.net? Can you give a few good reasons why?

I've never actually used Paint.net, but I have used GIMP quite a bit and I think it's nice.

Paint.Net is a very simple and easy to use tool.
Gimp has a larger variety of tools and features to use, from what I've chosen.
It's all about preference. Try both, and chose which one you like.

I use Paint.net when I don't have access to Photoshop, but recently I tested GIMP, it's pretty good.

I have both, along with several other similar programs. In the case of Paint.net and GIMP, however, I use Paint.net for image editing and GIMP pretty much just for GIFs.

The main question is what you'll be using them for. If you want drawing software, I'd say GIMP or something else. If you're just looking to edit images, I'd go with Paint.net.

I use inkscape because of it's object-oriented image editing style which makes it a good tool for making cartoon-styled images.

But if you're only choosing one of the two, my prefrence is GIMP, but its really a choice of whether you want simplification with little tools or a wide array of options that make things less user-friendly.
