What I'm saying is that monsters don't belong in a sandbox game (at least not "NPC-spawned" ones).
Minecraft is a sandbox game, Wurm Online is a sandbox game, Blockland is, I suppose GMod might be one too.
The only thing "sandbox" really implies is that you can leave a lasting impact on the server. (e.g. you can build/destroy stuff)
Thinking like that now, 'monsters' should be fine. Though NPCs and combat would be a bit further on in development.
Not saying that, just that he seems to want all sandbox games to have monsters that spawn at night.
IMHO, day/night cycles should be scrapped, but I doubt Dren will listen to me about that.
Why should they be scrapped?
All the games I've seen them in, I've liked them.
I'd like to be on that beta list, if I'm not already.

Development status:
Item type creation, item creation and item removal are now implemented both serverside and client side.
Now I just need an inventory GUI.
