1GB of RAM is no where near enough for Minecraft btw.  You need maybe at least 3GB to play it optimally.

Virtual memory in some cases can help, however for something like Minecraft it wouldn't work probably.

Minecraft needs a lot of RAM because it loads all chunk data from the save game into the memory.  If you move around to a different place, the game actively unloads unneeded chunks and loads new ones, and keeps repeating this process.

cant you turn the fog/draw down a ton? i mean shouldnt the game be dumping stuff out of view anyways?

You can just add 4 GB of Virtual memory. No difference. If Minecraft consumes 4 GB or more of RAM, then you are using too much.

You don't need a new computer to run a program, all you need is to buy more RAM (physical memory).
