No you're not. People have used Airsoft guns to hold up stores before because they're nearly indistinguishable from real guns. It'd be illegal.

No, its illegal and extremely dangerous. If you happen to be walking anywhere with it and a cop sees you, the officer has no way to distinguish it from a real weapon. The cop could potentially fire on you.

federal law doesn't prohibit removing the tip
but yeah, just be safe with it and don't carry it around in public and stuff
