Author Topic: Colonization of other planets.  (Read 1783 times)

Some thoughts have been with me about the subject.

You know how America revolted from England?

What if newly colonized planets, if we happen to do that in the future, revolt against Earth for independence?
Do you think it's a possibility?

Discuss.

Also kind of unrelated, do you think Earth will ever truly unify in the future? Like if we unify, and colonize other planets, then the conflict would be controlling the other worlds.

It's all too scary to think about. :(

But a space colonization video game would be super fun. :D

Earth would probably have an advantage, since they'll have most of the technology before they do.
Or we could all end up playing Risk 2210 A.D.

Obviously when we all unite, we are going to colonize planets and solar systems. Which is when we WILL meet alien races.

Unless the planet has life itself, it would be completely useless to revolt, seeing to that Earth is supplying the planet with all of the goods it needs to survive.

Not only that, but the USA has freedoms. More than that of the British colonies and Great Britain itself back in the 18th century.

Therefor, revolting in this case would be rendered useless.

You know the phrase History repeats itself? It derives from a temporal truth.

To my Mom's Martian house.

When mars is colonized Red Faction: Guerrilla will happen almost guaranteed.

They would only revolt if we made handicapped rules to treat them poorly.

Here is the difference between the Americas and Mars:

When the first settlers came to America, they had the technology to move to and live on other continents readily available to everyone. That meant that anyone could go. The people who colonized the Americas were not people the government sent to expand their territories or science.

When people go to Mars, the ability to go there will not be readily available to everyone. The people who are sent will not be looking for freedom. They will likely work for the government or a large corporation.

Revolutionary war --> Civil war --> ???

(note: both of these wars included seceding)

A war against a colonized planet would actually be pretty plausible, because they might lack political power on Earth and feel left out.

But like I said, nothing like this will happen unless:
1) They can generate their own resources
2) Their planet has life

The problem is is that life on another planet is pretty much unfeasible because the colonists would eventually succumb to cabin fever and the like. The only planet with gravity similar to Earth's within conceivable reach is Mars, which has an unlivable surface because it's bombarded with enough radiation to kill a human being in seconds, so our people and our crops would be forced to live underground in caves.  Terraforming isn't realistic or practical because Mars is too cold and the radiation would make living on the surface impossible to live on or grow crops anyways. The air pressure is too low as well, seeing as how the psi is similar to that of extremely tall mountains on Earth, and infinitely colder. Basically, until we discover faster-than-light travel, we will never colonize another planet.

The average temperature on Mars is only like -43 degrees. When you add a ton of carbon dioxide from the caps it might not be so bad.
