Mars isn't radioactive. It just doesn't have a suitable atmosphere, but it does have the capability of holding an atmosphere, so It's just a situation of figuring out an actually efficient way of pumping oxygen over there.

Or cleaning the CO2. Which we should probably worry about doing here on earth first.

I don't know too much about the whole thing,  but isn't Mars's atmosphere entirely CO²?  We could plant an assload of trees (and bring dirt if we can't use the native soil) and come back after a while.
