Author Topic: Wait, are blockland servers proxy servers?  (Read 1565 times)

oi, my mom is wondering if it's a proxy server, and i don't know if it's bad or not.

No.

Proxy servers listen for an address from a client, connect to that address, get all the HTTP information from the server, and sends all that information to the client.

Blockland doesn't even come close to that.

On top of all this, proxy servers aren't even bad.

So then, what does blockland do?

I always thought a user sets up a server, using their internet, then people connect to your "internet"

The user does set up a server, using their internet, and people do connect to your computer.
But it's still not a proxy server.

Blockland server:
Sends data from itself to connected clients, including networked objects (bricks, players, vehicles), ping, and commands (messages, prints, etc), and allowing the client to send controls and commands to itself.
Proxy server:
Only receives and address from the client. Only sends data from that address back to the client.

another thing, added to what Chrono's saying, there's no chance you can get hacked through blockland unless you download some malicious software someone, I don't know, links you to.

Pretty much, if you're not stupid about your actions, you'll be fine.

your mother is paranoid and silly. i dont understand why parents never seem to understand how the internet works and how you can trust things on it in certain situations

She's a tech geek person, she didn't know how the blockland servers worked though.

She keeps thinking that if i were to keep a 24/7 server running I'm leaving my connection open to invite trouble.

Why can't she understand.

My Mom does that too.

So now I can't even buy kalphs hosting service.

her computer is left "open" 24/7 when its on.

I think this is the quote, but there may be a better one

Quote
1. No one is going to hack you from you opening a few ports.  It is ten times more likely that you will download a virus off of limewire or something because that's what kids your age do.

2. The reason you have to forward ports for Blockland and no other games is because Blockland is the first game you've played where you are actually trying to host a game.  A large number of games require you to forward ports if you want to host.

3. Stop making ambiguous topics or I am going to ban you.

Mothers.

Mother:"Your factory made computer was made with viruses downloaded into it! I cant use my E-Mail!"
Me:"I just took it out of the loving box!"
Wanted to smack the bitch. She was entering her password wrong..

Talking about paranoid parents; so that i could get blockland i had to ask my dad a million times before he acutally said something else than "They will steel ma moneh!1!"
