Author Topic: What should I upgrade FIRST on my computer?  (Read 1090 times)

title

Specs;
Athlon X2 2.8 Ghz (2 Cores, 64 bit)
2 GB DDR3 Ram
Radeon HD 4550
500 GB Hard Drive
Windows 7 64 bit.

So, any ideas?  I want to save up for something but I just can't think of what without bottlenecking.

Edit: 2 slots of Ram, DDR3
Socket AM3 (938)

Moar Edit: The biggest downfall of my computer is that it only has 1 PCI-E slot that's big enough for a decent graphics card.  Plus the case is kind of small.  But I have the case open all the time so it doesn't have to be ridiculously small.

I'd say the ram, although wait for more confirmation before you do.

What's your pricerange?
I like the fact that your motherboard obviously supports DDR3 and as an AM3 slot. Really great.
If I were you, I'd chuck 2GB RAM in now for 4GB total, then upgrade your GPU to something around the 5850 to 6870 range, then next chance you get, chuck a Phenom II X4 in it.

you can check all the available updates at windows update center

It's an over time upgrade thing, so I'd say about 85 USD or under.

Dear god, RAM.  You should not be on less than 4GB.

i have 1gb of ram :D

Just make sure it's the same speed as your current stuff.

Just rip it apart & build a new one.

For forgets sake.
Don't talk if you don't know what you are saying.
He has a really great platform to build off, like I said, with the AM3 socket and the DDR3 slots.

By the way, LLANOs aren't that much better than his current setup. Definitely not worth "ripping it apart and starting again".

Alright i feel like a richard now so:

Get around 4GB of RAM, no more RAM until a while, can we have your max amount of RAM?
If you're using it for gaming, stick around 4GB for a while, and if your strugglign then 6GB
