Author Topic: So I'm trying to learn how to play 40k.  (Read 1640 times)

Yeah. Title says all.

I went out and bought the Assault on Black Reach starter kit yesterday, and having finished assembling it today (I still need to paint them), I began to read the AoBR handbook (With a few looks at the rulebook).
And my god is it confusing.

I then proceeded to watch video tutorials, which didn't really help much. And I'm still trying to find some simple instructions on how to play.

You're doing it wrong

Just get a Necron army and read the codex for them and then you will steamroll literally everything.

Actually- just get a bunch of Space Marines, a Rhino, and a Dreadnought.

I remember playing that Vs 2 Tau Hammerheads, 10 Fire Warriors, a CrCIA Battlesuit, and 50 of those Chaos zombie dudes and won.

Read over the manual a few times, that's what I did for Axis&Allies

But that's cool you're starting a tabletop game

Find someone IRL that knows how to play. We have a store where you can go ask anything and they will tell you everything about it. You can also go there on saturdays or something and get to know how to play and stuff for free.

or start with space marines like everyone else to figure the game out and then try on a faction that seems to fit you

I did this with some marines my friend didn't use anymore, then i switched to tau because if you've built your battlesuits right nothing is a problem anymore

That's not how you play with tau.
It should have been one broadside battlesuit team, a couple of XV8s with the gatling cannon things, and the fire warrior team and you really wouldve been screwed.

Incidentally, I bought Black Reach from a Games Workshop store.

I know, there are a lot of stuffty tau players and it pisses me off because in the codex it essentially tells you HOW TO DO IT

I thought warhammer was just a video game.

well whoever at the counter asked you at least one question, right? I mean if they're into it they ask a lot of questions cause they're cool.
Ask the people who work in that store and you'll hopefully get a lot of information. Maybe it's just that the people here at Fantasia are awesome.
