Author Topic: Large crack has appeared in my basement  (Read 5125 times)

Well tonight I happened to walk down the the basement of my new house and I noticed something I've never noticed before. An extremely large crack in the cement foundation of the house. I've never seen this crack before which leads me to believe it formed recently. I also checked the other walls of the basement and I noticed a similar crack formed on the other side.

13 feet long from this view. It also continues under the stairs so it is longer.

Has anyone ever had something similar happen to them. Or does anyone who has good experience in architecture know if this should be a concern?

Most likely just a normal crack, probably from stress. In my old house we used to have tons of cracks like that in our basement.

i'd rather get that large red line checked out

Could be, forgot to mention this house is brand new built from the ground up. I just find it weird that a 13+ foot crack would just appear that quickly.

Wow did everyone get the same Doctor Who idea?

It's probably just the foundation settling, new houses do that. My basement has cracks in the floor.

Only after FrozenEye.

Pretty much, everytime i see someone talking about a random crack, I think of that one episode of Doctor Who <3

Just an imperfection that broke under stress.
