but even then, what does "blockers" have anything to deal with it?

It has nothing to do with time travel, it's a simulation that always goes the same way unless an outside force (the guys "creating" the fighters) does something to forget up the perfect repetition and change the flow of battle (the guy throwing the board in front of the tire, for example), which "unlinks" the fighters because the simulation doesn't turn out the same way.
