You can usually use a high pressure compressor to make things smaller in dimensional size, but I doubt you'll be able to fit any papers in there afterwards.

My last resort will be to just use the 1 and a half inch. If I don't get any good suggestions by today, I'm doing it.

Really, the only way to help would be to simply get a bigger binder. I'm not trying to be rude, but if you're going to be thick by thinking a bigger binder makes you look stupid, then just deal with it.
