Author Topic: Custom PC build, would like some feedback; updated list in OP  (Read 1403 times)

I'm building my first PC and would like to get some feedback on if:

a) All the components of my build are compatible with each other,
b) My build can run most modern games pretty well on high settings, and
c) I'm missing anything.

Price (with rebates): $842.91

If there's anything I'm missing, because I know I'm probably missing something, and/or if anything on that list is incompatible with anything else, please let me know, and if you'd be so kind, give me a link to the item(s) that is/are compatible / the item(s) I'm missing. Thanks.

Oh, and my budget is under $1000.

Just get an AMD quad core unless you're getting an i7-2600k like me lol

I've heard AMD CPU's have worse FPU performance than their Intel counterparts.

No.

Go look up benchmarks.

also what the forget is an FPU.

I greatly prefer Intel over AMD.

Power supply is overkill for what you are building. I have an antec 750 watt psu and its already more than enough to power 3 overclocked 5830's, which each use way more power than a GTS 450. Stock i7 : ~= 95 watts, stock GTS 450 ~=106 watts Average rest of system ~=75 watts. I would say a good, sub 500 watt psu would be plenty for this build.

Great CPU, not a great GPU. get something better.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+II+X6+1100T I'm not sure how accurate this is though.
Also, FPU stands for Floating Point Unit, and basically does mathematical calculation.

All right, thanks for the info.

Edit: is this better?

No RAM?

Whoops, completely forgot that, adding to OP now.

I can't go higher than $200 on the GPU, my budget is pretty tight. What would you recommend?

Edit: would this be better? Nevermind, going with this one instead.

That GPU isn't great, it's 128-bit.
A 192-bit or higher should do.
Something like this.

Ooh yeah, that one's nice, and it has a rebate. I'll go with that one instead. Thanks.
