Author Topic: Free Server offer -Closed for application  (Read 7263 times)

Some notes:

  • I'm looking for people with popular builds/servers that don't have the means to host for many people
  • I will NOT consider such requests as: "IM 10 AND I CANT GET MY SERVER WORKING HOST FOR ME PLZPLZPLZPLZ
  • If I end up hosting for someone else, I will use my own key to host the dedicated server
  • The server is an AMD dual core @ 3.5 GHz, and 4 GB of ram. Should be enough for even a large server
  • I don't have time to build/moderate the server
  • The server is located is on the US east coast, but latency to other parts of NA should still be acceptable.
  • I might be able to host more than one server with a decent amount of people.
  • Your server will have the prefix "Starcraftman's" because I will use my own key to host.

Alright, for the next 3 months I will be living in the dorms at my university and have a spare computer and a TON of upload/download bandwidth with which I can host a server.

Because I don't have to pay extra for electricity I can do this for free, so I am looking for either a good idea for a server to host, or for someone who could use a server with a large capacity for huge builds, competitions, clan builds, or whatever.

Q: Why do this for free?
A: Blockland was the first real sandbox game I enjoyed. I played the alpha since 2004, and then retail when it was released. I love the game and the community (mostly), so I want to give something back.

Q: Why should I trust you with my server?
A: I don't know, you tell me :D

Post ideas or questions. I'll try to answer as many questions as I can.

List of people/groups considered so far
  • CVRAY Didn't respond
  • RedGajin -hosted
  • Arch/Koloce + Nyx clan -hosted
  • Big Brother -hosted
  • Conan -hosted
Waiting list
  • 1. Trogtor
  • 2. BlazingDragon

Also for bragging purposes: WARP SPEEEEEEEEED

Make the best server that can actually hold stuff. Like Blockoworld sense Tom's computer sucks, or a really well monitored TDM/DM sense Counts has been drama'd a lot.
Loljk but really, do something big and useful, kind of like Badspot's server, whereas people can contribute and build on end, and sense you have high bandwidth you can hold that.

I don't really have the time to build anything or watch over the server to kick/ban people. This is why I need ideas or someone who would like a more powerful server setup for something awesome. I currently have it running a freebuild server, but there is nothing in there, everyone just joins and leaves due to the lack of anything.

I see you too know the glory that is college internet.

It is a beautiful thing.

It seems download bandwidth is limited by the wire, however that seems to be the max upload for the whole campus.

Also 1.67GB is the most memory usable by the game.

Wait, so you will be hosting servers for people? Because if so, holyforgetyes.

Yeah, I was aware there was some limit like that. Any idea what a realistic number of players in a server would be with that limit?

That's the plan assuming someone meets the criteria.

Whats the criteria? Does it depend on what I'm hosting?

So if I have all my things built and set up, is that alright? And what about you getting add-ons for the server, is that a problem?

Not necessarily, I'm looking to host for people that have popular servers/builds but don't have the means to host them for many people.
