Avi doesn't suck, either you saved it with no compression or with a crappy codec

Start by downloading the Xvid Codec and Virtual Dub. Open your video file to virtual dub, then on the menu bar click, video/compression/XvidMPEG-4 Codec. After that click, file/SaveAsAVI, the size will be greatly reduced, although you do lose some video quality.
