It's not an actual "invitation", it's just a point where you get popular enough and Youtube wants to see if they can make you more popular so they can get profit.

I had one video it got like 15k views but had copyrighted video so I deleted it then signed up and got it with ease.

Obviously do it, it's just a way to make money.  Do a weekly addon review or something if you need consistency.

The advertisements aren't all that bad. Make a video solely about advertisements and your views, and say like
"When you watch my videos, please don't mind the advertisements, they just help me and you." or something, and Im sure people would put some sympathy towards you.
And a 30 second video ad in the beginning is more for VEVO or RayWilliamJohnson or popular people, I don't think they pop you the ads so soon, but if they do, make a video more then 30 seconds so you don't have people raging at you saying the advertisement was longer then the video itself.

Even with partnership, there's an option to turn off ads.
Sure you wont make any money from the ads, but you still get the rest of the cool stuff.
