Author Topic: Your view on life?  (Read 2060 times)

What are your personal beliefs pertaining to the meaning of life?  We were talking about this in my school and it piqued my interest.  I'm an existential nihilist with a touch of pragmatism.  In plain english, I feel that life has no inherent meaning, that you need to make your own.

I agree. People that commit Self Delete because "they have no place" are, to me, incredibly stupid. You're not born with a purpose in life. You gotta make one, dammit.

Seeing as it's our natural instinct to survive and to ensure the survival of the species, my goal is to make the world better. And as long as I've done that, I can die in peace.

But that's an interesting view, to make your own meeting. It's an empowering idea, I like it.

We just had a thread exactly like this less than a week ago. You participated in it. What the forget is wrong with you?

That thread was about FrozenEye finding happiness.  Not about the meaning of life in a personal sense.

I feel that we are lucky to have life, maybe life, even the creation of earth, was a mistake.

In response to the Self Delete;
Quote from: Hamlet
To be, or not to be--that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them. To die, to sleep--
No more--and by a sleep to say we end
The heartache, and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to. 'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wished. To die, to sleep--
To sleep--perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub,
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause. There's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life.
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
Th' oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office, and the spurns
That patient merit of th' unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? Who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscovered country, from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will,
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all,
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprise of great pitch and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry
And lose the name of action.
tl;dr Hamlet questions the moral legitimacy of Self Delete and whether or not if it will benefit the people around him

That thread was about FrozenEye finding happiness.  Not about the meaning of life in a personal sense.
But it's where the thread went. Anyways, my thought on the meaning of life still stands, I'll go get it later.

I have a pretty simple goal in that I just want to have kids and raise them to be successful. and get lots of love giggidy goo

Everyone exists to serve me. B)

pfffffff, live is a toy, you can play with it but eventually it will break. the way you decide to play with it is up to you, you can play with it all gentle like and keep it in your room in the toy box, or you can race it down the slide, army crawl it through a battle, and have it sail across a puddle, no matter what you do it will always, always break.

That was going pretty beautifully until you went mega pessimistic at the end.

Lol stocking.

Well I feel as if I was nothing and then I was born. The universe was nothing and then it just appeared. I have no fear on death so I live a serene life. I agree that the people who comitted Self Delete were idiots. You need to find what you want in your life. Life isn't a served plate on the dinner table. You have to fish your wishes and learn how to continue walking in the blizzard.
I love life even though it can sometimes appear wrong. Ever flaw that I have made or encountered makes me stronger. I do not regret making mistakes. Its the only way you learn.
I wish I believed in god but I'm basically an atheist. I don't believe in heaven or hell. I accept that nothing proceeds death. But then it is the incipient of death, to a new life.
