Author Topic: Looking to upgrade graphics card, what to get?  (Read 809 times)

So yeah, my graphics card is an AMD Radeon 4200 HD and it's pretty bad.
So I was looking for something that could run Call of Duty BO without much lag. (Not saying that I'm going to be playing Call of Duty, but it's just a standard)

I got that from DXDIAG so I'm not sure what I need or not.

But yeah, I want something fairly cheap that can run most modern games.

Well, I would get a 5450 because it has very low power cumsumption while being fairly powerful (run most source games on high) and we don't know what your PSU wattage is.

It can't run most of the high quality games at a steady framerate however.
I can run BC2 at about 20 fps, in low action, and need for speed at about 15.

I'd go for something a bit more powerful then that, but yeah, if you can't really afford a new PSU, it would be a fair choice. MY PSU is only rated for 300w, so it works fine. :3

running source games is very very easy, dont judge a GPU by performance in source.

I have a similar CPU, a little weaker but still an athlon ii x4, and i have a gtx460 i bought used for like $70ish. works great.

I'm not looking to run source games on high. I want the higher-tier games. How do I find my wattage?

look up your computer's specs online if its prebuilt
otherwise look at the physical PSU and you should be able to find it somewhere

Cheap is opinionated, so please specify your price point.

What's cheap for you could not be cheap for others.

It should be on a sticker on your PSU.
Also, if you want high quality, then a HD 5450 won't do.

If his PSU could support it, would a 5570 do?

Less than 60 dollars.
But still the cheaper the better :I

Open case.
Look on side of PSU, there should be a little thing on a sticker that says Output: X watts. (or, xx_number_xx).

It should look something like this.

With a 450 you can use a lot of graphics cards, whats your budget?

A 460 would do really good

Get an nvidia FX 5200

I was planning on getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121419
Not too expensive, I'll have to get a powersupply to run it though :|

Less than 60 theres no point really
