Author Topic: Decent and cheap computer?  (Read 1933 times)

So, I was going to ask for a PC for Christmas, as my current PC can't play any games newer than HL2. Still, I can barely run HL2.

My mom said no, but maybe if I can get a cheap computer (Below $500) then they'll decide. if not, then oh well.

Games I'd like to play:

-MW2
-Oblivion
-BFBC2 (maybe, i don't know how more high-end it is compared to MW2)
-All source games
-A lot more.

So, yeah.
It has to be prebuilt. That's really the only rule.

reason for this?

I mean I'm not gonna be like FUK U BUILD ONE IS BETR LOSER but there has to be some reason and it's generally true that you can get a better one via buying parts anyway.

and if the reason is "because" and you're 100% sure you can't/won't buy parts, I suggest browsing the prebuilts on newegg.

I put together a computer that runs Fallout 3 and Spore fine for < $300.

My big suggestion is to buy an Alienware, brand new from the computer with a 4 year lifetime warranty.  It's cheap I swear.

alienware is stuff. overpriced stuff. also good luck getting a decent alienware for under 500.

uhh
before i get ranted
ill just put m two cents and say uhhh
toshiba?

I have a computer that's like 560 bucks, would run those games fine.

They're loving great computers, but overpriced.

Try iBuyPower or Lenovo.
NINJA: I meant CYBERPOWERPC.

I don't know.
I really know batstuff about computers, and I don't want my parents to buy the wrong parts or the parts are out of stock or something.
Still, chances are is that they won't buy me it. I already can't get a new gaming console, but if this PC is really cheap, then maybe. If I can't get it, then I'll get headphones and a external HDD.

EDIT: And no. It's not worth upgrading. In the first place, it's basically impossible. and two, I'd spend more on it then on a new PC.

EDIT2: I also don't need Office or other fancy programs. Just a OS. I also have a CRT monitor. I don't need a new one. It's okay.

they're mediocre at best. sure the specs are decent to good-ish but the price ruins it. it seems like when you buy alienware, you buy the brand, not a computer ..

True.

Well stuff.

Cheapest on Newegg is $379.00

If you can find cheaper, then I'll love you. If not, then so much for that. :c

LOL DISREGARD THAT

looking through $100 to $200 PCs. Probably can't run MW2 or BFBC2.

Disregard this too.
The cheap PCs ($100 to $300) are crap. s

:(

Of COURSE you buy the brand, but Dell makes parts that don't break or wear out over the same time as many other brand names.  Sure, you can't replace them with anything that isn't Dell (Which... is why I seriously loving hate Dell) but the Alienware will run just as fast as when you first get it for several years without any slowdown.

...note, I'm not denying it's overpriced.  I offered it as a joke, seeing as it's the most expensive brand other than the Falcon.

if you can manage a $500 computer then don't cheap out just to save money. normally a good (read: mid-range) GPU is at least $500. basically what I'm trying to say is the less you pay for a prebuilt, the higher the chances a part(s) is going to be mediocre or worse, causing you to wish you spent more

basically just don't be cheap. you have a low budget, that's okay, but don't get a $200 computer just because they exist lol

It's not me being cheap. My parents just can't afford a new PC. If they get themselves a new PC, I get theirs.

EDIT: Parents PC specs are now attached.

you said you could maybe go for a $500 one at first, but you're looking at 100-200 ranged ones lol. that's all I meant by that :P
