Isn't it mostly beefy men banging their heads together?

Well that's stupid. In the places where rugby is played, they don't call it football, even though it technically is. So why can't we just refer to american football as gridiron, since that's what it is.

Because kick-offs.
But all of the world except America classfies football as soccer. So the Us is basically going forget you world were gonna confuse you.

why dont they just call yank football Gridiron. It sounds better and is less confusing.
That would make sense, at the same time of having a bad ass name for a sport.
