Author Topic: Broken lighting in Blockland?  (Read 2725 times)

I'm not sure if this is a bug I'm having personally or an overall programming fault, but lights only seem to apply when I'm near them instead of all the time.

Not only that, but baseplates only light up when you're in certain postitions instead of all the time.

I've heard several other people complain about this or am I alone in the dark on this issue?

Blockland does that. You are not alone.

it has always done this and it probably always will.

Also, the larger the brick, the worse the lighting will be defined, because it only detects at each corner. notice the diagonal lines in the lighting on the wall in the second screenshot. putting a tiny light on the corner of a baseplate will light half of it up.

forget yeah torque

amount of viewed lights at once is surprisingly small.

like three at a time are visible.

youre lucky sometimes i get a bug where everything except the map itself is black

There is only one solution.
Spam 2x2 plates.

The only reason you can't really use lights on large baseplates is because the current way it's coded only allows for vertex lighting on bricks.
If it wasn't vertex lighting, it would lag a lot more than it does now.

4x-8x is sufficient.

and then suddenly you realize all of the bricks are pitch black.

we're talking about lights, not flare textures.

I'm sorry, aren't those green things lights?

sarcasm meter broken?

opengl can only support 8 lights at a time
the torque engine is probably trying to suffice for this by only using the closest 8

is the picture I posted really that small

cause those green things seems to be lights

and there seems to be at least like 20 of them
