Author Topic: How crappy is my computer?  (Read 1425 times)

mines worse
In every way except RAM.
Mine has 3 GB of RAM for some reason with it's 2.1 GHz processor.
It's a laptop, so I cannot modify it.

My grandmas computer has a single core processor 2GHz, the worst integrated graphics I've ever seen, and 256 MB of RAM.
Only 192 is usable because the rest is for video RAM.
It's just terrible. I want to kill myself when I use it.

You're using an AGP slot for your video card, that stuff's outdated, but still used.
If you're just using it to run XP and browse the internet you're fine.
it's not crap, it's just outdated.

The video card is equal to an 8400M or a GS9200.
It's not too bad, but it is old.
Would've been quite good in it's day.

My desktop is worse.

That's why I use my laptop.

8400 isn't too bad of a GPU. I had been using one for a year when I was younger. It could handle basic things.
Not sure about the mobile version, but I assume it's about the same as the desktop version.

>sub-3 GHz P4
>Geforce 4

Send it to the Smithsonian, it probably qualifies as an artifact.

Upgrade it to 2GB of RAM, get a decent AGP card and a new PS. Connect it to a T.V. and a monitor (via dual-monitor support on the AGP card) and have it be a home entertainment system/light gaming system.

Just for the record, I have this type of setup and it's a pleasure to use.

When I'm not playing with my laptop's i7...

There are almost no decent AGP cards out there.  You could hardly do "light gaming" if you're talking about today's games.

I have a P4 system with a DX9 graphics card and its plenty good for basic games. Source runs perfect on it at medium-high graphics and Gmod also works. It can run Blockland perfect and is the cheese. Also, its attached to a big non-HD screen and a normal monitor so if I want I can lay in bed and play Source on my T.V. Its nice to do that.

It's not worth the money.
It'd be way better to save up for even a $400 system.

In a rating out of 10, 10 being a fantastic computer, I'd rate this 2.

Pentium processors are not hot, "2.66ghz" is deceiving. Your RAM is on the outdated side, 1GB is okay but 2GB has become the minimum I feel. XP as an OS is fine. Your graphics card is exceptionally poor, very out of date and it will be utterly useless for any modern gaming whatsoever, there is no question.

Yeah ,I knew the GPU was the weak link in the system, but still 1GB of RAM is under the norm...
Just so you know I can't run HL2 demo, TF2 demo, or Portal demo ON LOWEST POSSIBLE SETTINGS. It's not laggy beyond playability, it just crashes the game and freezes the computer for ten minutes...

Luckily I'm getting a new one for Christmas
* hallelujah*

I reckon it just doesn't have the means to process it at all with that amount of memory, and it probably isn't too clever with shading, rendering, etc.

Yay!
