Hey guys, I'm writing a story, it's kinda a take on Fall-out, but I gave it a go, Here it is so far
A New Era
Chapter One - Screeching Hydraulics Bring back Memories
I hear the hydraulics screech as the vault door opens. It’s been 25 years since I was outside the claustrophobic tin can. I vaguely remember entering Vault 56. As I walk up to the surface, I remember the day the attack started…
-25 Years ago-
As of this time, I’m only 5 years old. I’m just like any other kid, riding bikes with my friends. As we continue through District 16, I hear a loud siren blow. As any other kid would react, I freak out and panicked. I remember jumping off my bike and running down the street back to my home. I see my parents yelling at me to come over. It seems everybody on the block was freaking out. My dad pushed me into the car and we sped off. As we were speeding down the highway, I tried to ask what was going on, but my parents didn’t hear me over they’re arguing. Finally we reached our destination, but it was a cave, what the heck is going on I though. My mom pushed me out of the car and we rushed to the cave as hundreds of other cars pulled up. Everyone was shouting as I was escorted down the cave by my mom. We finally stopped. The end of the cave, why were we down here? What is this? Suddenly, what I thought was a wall screeched, It was opening! What is it though? Then I see it, It’s Vault 56! I know what’s happening, we were warned this was going to happen. District 9 launched nuclear missiles toward District 16. I started to wonder why the heck they would do that. I remember hearing about conflict upon us, but I didn’t think it would come this far. Everybody walked into the vault and we began our “Vault life” as the doors closed. Ever since then, we all had a bland routine Wake up, Have breakfast at the cafeteria, Go to the “Round Room” to see the daily news and see the count down until we got out, Eat lunch, get exercise at the park room, “Free time” , Eat dinner, Go to sleep.
-Back to the present-
After all those thoughts had gone through my mind, I realized I was finally out, It was not how I remembered it. No blue sky, No grass, No plants at all. I looked around and saw nothing but a large crater and dry dirt. Suddenly a large boat with a balloon landed in front of me, I only dreamed of these, A sort of Steam-punkish airship! A sort of tall man with a large beard jumped out, Though I couldn’t see his face as it was covered with a gas mask. He started to walk towards me, when he finally reached me and said “Why aren’t you wearing a gas mask you idiot, you know, Atomic explosions leave fall-out all over the place!” I looked at him strangely and put on my gas mask. I finally got it on and said “Thanks for telling me.” He looks at me and holds out his hand “Hi, I’m Captain Doug and this is my ship, the Sky-Breeze.” I held out my hand to shake his hand and respond with, “I’m john” As we climbed into the airship, I’m wondering what the new life style was going to be like. As we flew over what used to be district 9, I see a sudden flashback. I remember the city looking great, modern architecture and glass builds, skyscrapers and large sculptures. Now all I see is dirt, twisted metal, rusted-bent cars and trucks. This place was devastated by the nuclear attack. Finally somebody speaks, even though it’s not me, because I’m astonished by what happened, “How long were you locked up in that vault?” I reply with “25 years, I got let out because the place was too old to sustain the amount of people who were in there.” I turned to look at him and asked “What was the explosion like for you?” “Oh…” He replied
Chapter Two – Other People’s Stories Matter too
-Doug’s Story-
“Honey, I’m home!” He walked in to the kitchen to see his wife preparing dinner and his kids watching TV. “What’s for dinner?” She replied, “Steaks with mashed potatoes.” “Ah, sounds good!” The meal was ready and everyone walked to the table. In thirty or so minutes, everyone had gulped down they’re meals. Suddenly there was a very bright flash about 2-3 districts over, Doug’s family lived in District 19, which was about 2 miles away from District 16. Everyone ran for the car as the house caught fire from the explosion, not knowing what was happening, they sped down the street, but it was too late, the shockwave had reached District 19, the car suddenly flipped over and all the houses turned into shrapnel. A large piece of metal came through the back window and killed Doug’s sons instantly. When the shockwave hit the car, his wife died from the impact. Unable to move the car, Doug struggled to slip on his gas mask and get out of the car, as it was upside down. He ran the only way he could think of, away.
