Author Topic: Out of memory error on some games  (Read 753 times)

I am receiving "Out of memory" error on some games.

I am talking about All Points Bulletin, which gives me a video memory error, even tho' I even get this error on low and I have a NVIDIA GTX 460...
But even more annoying, I receive this on Minecraft.

The task manager: Around 900 MB usage when Minecraft's not on.
~1.6 GB usage when Minecraft's on.

That means Java uses a total of 700 MB.

Ok, that's stupid since Minecraft on F3 says it uses less than 500. Did the RAM allocation trick. Still getting this error faster than I get it from running the actual game.

I have 3.2 GB DDR3 readable memory (4 GB total), and after some time of gameplay (Sometimes) I get a error window with "You are low on memory blablabla", even tho' I have minimum 1 GB unused RAM.

(Then in some cases my screen blacks out and I need to restart my computer).

I bought this computer 1 month ago.

I require assistance here. I can't even play Minecraft.

Additional details:

Intel i5 2300
NVIDIA GTX 460 (Palit Sonic Platinum)
3.2 GB DDR3 RAM
2 TB Harddrive

What is your view dist at?

That shouldn't affect anything. I played on highest view dist once for a couple of minutes, and I have 1.5 GB memory. It didn't shut down or anything.

What is your view dist at?

Everything at maximum, 100 FPS.

I'd imagine being able to run everything at maximum on a 16-bit game with my hardware, shouldn't I?...

Have you had any BSOD's lately? If there were any kind of memory issues, they would pop up.

Yeah I once had a BSOD and I lost one of my Minecraft worlds.

The BSOD error came after one of the "System memory low" etc. ; but I still checked and had 1 GB free back then.

I was getting that error, setting view dist to normal fixed it for me.

You'd be surprised

Gonna try running a session with Normal distance. I'll post results.

And how about All Points Bulletin?

Processor?

100FPS in minecraft, i'm getting 300 with a GT 430, you must have a bottleneck in RAM (very rare) or processor, RAM is dirt-cheap, get a 4GB set, i'm upgrading to 16 when i get multi-monitors and a decent card

A higher view distance would mean more data is being stored in memory at one time.

I don't know if black data is be stored in VRAM or if it is stored in System RAM. You could try increasing the JVMs heap size?

Since it's happening on both games, and you get an occasional black screen, it could be a defect with your GPU (again, perhaps related to VRAM)? I'm not an expert with hardware by any means, though, so these are just ideas.

The two issues could also be completely unrelated as well.

Maybe some sort of Malware is eating up your RAM

Anyways
Remove any unneeded Start up Apps or scan PC

To fix the Minecraft error change the view distance to normal. Notch and Jeb are trying to fix it.

run a memtest.

forgeted up memory can give games the same "low mem" errors as actual low mem would cause.

stuffted ram is the 3rd most common cause of blue screens.
