Author Topic: Do you know how to code?  (Read 2392 times)

And if so, what language?

I, personally, know absolutely zero. It kills me that I'm 14 and love computers yet I know jack about coding, so I would like to learn how to. Some pointers, tips, somewhere to start etc. etc. from the ~pros~ would be nice. I'd also like to know a language that strikes a good balance between quality and easy-medium to learn. I'm not trying to be a second Notch, I'd like to do something Dwarf Fortress/Goblin Camp/Rogue Survivor/Elona-esque. So, hear my pleas, Blockland Forums! A rough estimate of how long it would take to become -decent- at coding *INSERT LANGUAGE HERE* would be nice, too.

Note, unlike what you probably caught from this block of text, this topic is actually a poll.

If I did it'd be C++ mainly.

I know HTML and CSS and a bit of Java

C++, C#, And a little torquescript.

Trying to learn to use XHTML Strict.

ive been coding for ~7 years

i do a lot of coding, c++, java, lua, torquescript, html, etc.

it doesnt really take much effort to learn, mostly logical thinking and trial and error.

you can look up tutorials if you need to get started.

i personally love the Java syntax and whatnot but i hate compiling things with it

Pretty much any useful language I know.

Java's easy as stuff to get started in and to actually learn to code for so that's my recommendation I guess.

TorqueScript is, oddly enough, really similar to Java once you get into it.

It's a lot more simular to c#. Even the file extension ".cs" is from C#.

I actually never even looked at C# code.
