A gun fires a  projectile (Commonly a bullet.) from a muzzle (On regular guns)

Generally, guns use compressed gas confined by the barrel to propel the bullet up to high speed,(Not always) though devices operating in other ways are sometimes called guns. In guns that are firearms the high pressure gas is generated by combustion, usually of gun powder. Some guns have alot of recoil (Like a magnum).

I personally like Bolt Action rifles the best out of any kind of rifle. I've had a Mosin Nagant for a long time now and I really like it. The only kind of rifle I haven't shot is Lever Action, so I can't say anything about lever action rifles.

I've shot a lever action. They don't have as much recoil as I thought and it shot
pretty well.

My rifle looks like this, but there's a slit in the side where the bolt handle fits into, so it doesn't move so much.

I believe my rifle was restored at some point by a previous owner, because I haven't seen another Mosin with a slit for the bolt handle, and the stock seems new/stained.

Also, not all guns are gas operated.

Machine guns are more likely to be gas operated than rifles, because it used very highly compressed gasses to push the pin into the bullets at higher speed.
