Author Topic: Birthday coming up, wanting to upgrade my graphics card.  (Read 5269 times)

I'd highly advise you get this, it's considerably better and at the moment cheaper.

Though if you prefer Newegg it's still only 10 dollars more expensive, but has a 10 dollar promo code, so it's the sameprice.

AND it has a 20 mail in rebate card, making it down to 149.99 after the rebate. That's an astounding deal.

10 promo code ends at the end of October though.

Actually, I need 700 watts for that? I'll just take the other card.

How do you figure?

Using your specs I just calculated at max around 400, maybe a tad over.

Mine is 250.

Mine is 250.

No, I'm saying using your specs and my suggested graphics card I just calculated an estimated power wattage output of a wee bit over 400.

So how did you get 700?

Copied from Newegg:
Pros: 1)Price less than $400 for two of these for better performance than a GTX 580.
2) Silent! Running this can and a reference 6870... This thing is silent compared to the refrance card.
3)Stays cool running at 75c while running Furmark
4)It is a Sapphire card
5)You get dirt 3 for free.
Best budget cards out there right now, Crossfire scaling is amazing with these cards.

Cons: Not OC friendly, but you dont need to OC these cards.

Other Thoughts: Get this card if you are on a budget
System Specs:
AMD 1090T @4.1 Ghz
Asus Sabertooth 990fx
8 gigs of ram @1600 (DDR3)
2x Samsung spinpoint f3 in R0... Almost the same performance as sata 2.0 SSDs (2TB total)
2x Radeon 6870 (this card and reference card
Corsair 750Watt
Bitfenix Shinobi case (Get this thing it is awesome! Not on newegg though :/)

Make sure you have at least a 700Watt + PSU.
Scroll down very slightly and you'll see it when you click feedback

His specs must be entirely different and I don't understand how he could run that high.

Even my 8 GB, 4 GHz Quad Core, GTX 560 Ti only uses under 500.

And that is considerably more power consuming than what you're going for.

I would NOT suggest anything over a 67XX series with your current CPU, you'll just get a whole bunch of bottlenecking.
What resolution do you run at?

I dunno then.

1600x900

You resolution will do you fine, though Ethan is correct, your CPU will bottleneck your CPU.

But you could always just buy the graphics card and then next time you have money upgrade the CPU.

That way you're set for a wee bit on the GPU.

I think I'll just get another?

Use that 500W PSU you have provided and one of the below:

After rebates, they are $110 and $120 respectively. The extra $10 is worth it for the better cooler on the expensive one. Also on all XFX products you get a lifetime warranty.

What PSU

And what is bottlenecking?
Bottlenecking is when you're CPU is not adequate enough for your graphics card and it hurts the performance badly.

Like, though your graphics card could handle maxed out settings, your CPU could not. So you wouldn't be able to have maxed out settings.
