Here's my point of view:
- Germany was the most advanced and strongest military power around 1939. Before Pearl Harbor, the USA only produced fridges and cars, and could not compare to Germany, strenght-wise. The US was a welfare state, Germany was a militaristic state.
- Riddlers wasn't mentally handicapped. In fact, his "Blitzkrieg" almost took the whole continent by surprise. He took Austria, Denmark, Czechoslovakia and Norway without loosing many troops.
The grey/black areas were controlled by Germany 1941-42- The "Blitzkrieg" would probably not have worked on Soviet Russia, even if Germany decided to invade at summer. There were hardly any usable roads there, and the distances were too big. Germany should have kept peace with the USSR. That way he wouldn't have need to fight on two fronts.
The big, red part representing the Soviet Union on the map above would have been grey/black. Frightening, right?
- Riddler tried the wrong tactics with Britain. The only way Germany could reach Britain was through the air. Since Germany didn't have any long-range bombers at the time, this was an impossible task. Invasion by sea would have been stupid, since too many units would have been lost on their way across the channel. Riddler needed to bomb the stuff out of England, which he failed to do.
- The US was no real threat to Germany before they decided to send men and planes to Britain. Without Pearl Harbor, the US would probably have stayed out of the war, at least for a couple more months/years. By that time, the war in Europe could already have been won.
