Author Topic: Setting up Lan? (Not BL)  (Read 2956 times)

My 2nd computers Wireless thing has stopped working and I'm wondering how can I setup a normal Lan with cords. Can you please tell me what would be require in a cored Lan?

Just wondering is it possible to setup a Lan using this top port:

Top port looks like standard Ethernet...

Go get some 10\100 Cat 5 Ethernet cable and plug end one into your modem and one end into your computer's motherboard\network card. There may be some issues regarding IP and Internet connectivity, I know my cable modem and firewall absolutely hate each other and love to drop out. If it doesn't work, go into the connection options and click repair, hopefully that will fix it. If it doesn't, reset the modem then try again. Hope I helped :P

There shouldn't be much of a problem.

1st Step, check out the settings of you network, are you using DHCP or static IPs?
2nd Step, plug in the ethernet cable and connect it to your router/switch.
3rd Step, hope that it works or ask for further assistance.

Just plug your computer into your router with the cable, there shouldn't be an issue unless something is very wrong.

Ok my Network Port thing looks like this , its smaller then the Ethernet one.

Ok I'll post all the stuff I have to work with

-modem has 3 slots ones for Modem to USB the other is Ethernet to computer or router and the last one is smaller Ethernet thing to my Phone which connects me to the net.

-Cords lots of Ethernet and small Ethernet cords.

-Each computer has that Network slot same Size.

-Main computer has a Ethernet port for the router to modem thing

-Firewalls are not a problem they are not handicapped ones.

I may have to buy a Ethernet to small Ethernet adapter but I'm not sure.

The "small ethernet cord" is nothing you want to have^^ it's just enough that it links between splitter and dsl modem.

You just need a normal ethernet cord that links your pc to the router.

The small ones are most likely for ISDN or normal Telephone, but not for ethernet ^^

I'm trying to setup Lan via Cords not my Router or internet.

How to setup an Ethernet LAN:
1.  Acquire Ethernet cables, a router, and a cable/dsl modem.
2.  Plug everything the forget in.
3.  Win.

Yay i had my first lan party today.

Ah bugger this it'll be easier just to buy another Wireless thing. Thanks anyway guys.

I want to kill this kid...
While were on the topic of LAN, and I don't want to start another topic about this;
What if I want to access files that are on another computer, using this computer, both of them are connected, and share the same modem.
LAN is already set up, but how would I access those files?

You'll have to send them over via Shared Folder.
