Author Topic: Jesus, My Family has a History of Badassery  (Read 4725 times)

i am a direct descendent of george washington

My cousin is a pro surfer (look up torrey meister) and my aunt used to be a Radio DJ in NYC... do I win? I wanna win :3

Well, Josef Mengele is an evil person, why do I look kind of like him? I know he's my relative and all, but seriously, WTF.

I'm betting $50 that i'm related to people.

and lastly, my Uncle was reluctant to tell me this, but he was actually imprisoned with John McCain in the Hỏa Lò Prison in Vietnam for three years, surviving very brutal torture that I'd rather not write about. He was there because he was shot down, ejected, and landed right into a group of Viet Cong soldiers, who took him prisoner. He's fine now, but doesn't like talking about his stay in the Hanoi Hilton.

I studied your uncle and a variety of other POWs in survival school.  The instructors showed us a video documentary of a number of POWs' first hand accounts of their time in the Hanoi Hilton.  I can't recall his name, but his story stood out as it was being told...the thought of ejecting right into a group of a Viet Cong patrol was humorous in a morbid sort of way.

The stuff those guys endured is a testament to the fortitude of some men and their perseverance even in the face of apparent hopelessness.  It's nothing short of impressive that he did not allow them to break his will.

my great grandfather was a resistance soldier in italy, he shot national socialists from windows
my great great grandfather was caught and killed because he was in the resistance
my grandfather on my mothers side was tortured in a brazilian prison after starting a rebellion against corrupt government officials.
my grandfather on ma dad's side used to sneak into german military camps and steal their food and supplies.
my dad once killed a pigeon with a stone.
my mom has a good metabolism.

due to the break in badassery i'm going to do something super badass. i'm leaning toward being a han solo type badass like dues ex.

It's weird how he will tell other people his story but he is very reluctant to tell me. One of the things he had to endure was being cut with a razor 500 times, all over, and being dunked in vomit and rolled in excrement, and that was just the morning wake up. The rest is just too gruesome for me to write.

And rockslide is still here
on the internet
awaiting a badass opportunity to arise.

Well, not many opportunities to be a badass at the moment. I don't want to pursue a career in sewing babies together and systematically starving people like great grampy Mengele, and I'd rather not join the army.

My family is so badass they're completely regular.

Because they are.

I don't know anything about my family history. Probably not gonna find anything very amazing if I investigate. My last name comes from when people fled to the "Craven Hills" when some town in Europe was being invaded. For the more illiterate bunch, craven means cowardly ;-;.

Edit: Did some quick digging and the only real interesting things about Cravens lies in the kingdom ages of Europe where a lot of Cravens were Knights or in some part of medieval warfare. The coat of arms also has the Craven motto which was originally a battle cry, "Virtus in actione consistit." which translates to "Virtue consists in action.".

So now I can't be sad that nothing exciting happened for Cravens c:

Yeah man, and to think that this was everyday.  For every week.  For years on end.  You have to consider that this is probably not a part of his past which he enjoys repeating to his family, but if his story helps a future POW survive, it is worth telling.

It makes you seriously contemplate at which point one would simply come to the conclusion of Self Delete to escape the torture.  The emotional and psychological gymnastics these guys must have gone through cannot be perceived by a regular person.

The worst most of us were put through was four days without food and marches up to fifty miles total during the middle of winter, followed by a simulated prison camp where we were constantly open-hand slapped and put in small dark cells.  Even that was almost too much for some people.

Do you mind dropping his name?  I understand if you don't wish to.

Sorry, I'd rather not give the name, for various reasons. I hope you understand. The only reason I named Josef Mengele is because many people already know his name, no use hiding that.

Unrelated note: I need to change my hairstyle, I look too much like Mr. Mengele.

Edit: My uncle was actually a part of the mini-rebellion during the church service in the camp held for news cameras. He yelled out "Damn you, release us" and spit on the cameras every time they pointed at him.

I understand.

Next time you see him, tell him that he is an inspiration to SERE school students and Army aviators everywhere and that his story as well as the other POWs' stories stick with us.

My great great grandfather was shot when he was cashing in on a poker game in a saloon in Topeka, Kansas. He won fair and square but then a black guy at the table shot him
