Author Topic: Overclocking problem - 50c on idle  (Read 1689 times)

My old laptop got 70-105C randomly. And it still worked fine. 100C is when fan went faster.
50C is just fine.

40c even on idle, this is only when i peak CPU usage but no prob, V is about 1.2

Would 600W be enough to power my fans and everything? my PC uses 400W in total

Basically you should be worried after 75C imo.

90c on full load?

What CPU do you have? How hot does it run on maximum load (use Prime95 to find out)?

Sandy Bridge i5 2500 (non-K) @ 4.1GHZ.

I had 70c when idling, after dusting I got a good 50c.

75c on full load now. 30c on idle, cleaned it a bit

Intel lists a maximum Tcore (center of heatsink) reading of 72.6, so you should probably turn down the clock frequency or get a better cooler. Also, I thought it was impossible to overclock Sandy Bridge CPU's that aren't unlocked?

You can overclock non-K chips by turning up the turbo multipliers, but from what I've read the maximum speeds you can reach are only about 500 MHz more than the standard clock.

Well I guess it's fine now.

my GPU goes up to 90 C under load. im just gonna run it till it drops then buy a newer one.

I never hit 10)% usage
The main rule when overclocking is to always do a stability test at full load. It doesn't matter if all you do is play Farmville on Facebook.
