Author Topic: Need at MAX $600 build  (Read 1696 times)

Before I start out, I'd like to say this is just as a placeholder, in case I get more money, so don't say (You had 350 before how you get more money)

Anyways, I need a $600 build, I already want these parts:

2x GTX 460 ($200)
AMD Phenom II x4. ($120)

So in total, there is 300 dollars left for other parts

SO I need support for SLI and a good PSU and such. If you can, try to make it as cheap as possible without sacrificing quality. Thanks! :D

Why not just wait till you have a budget of $1200 or so. You'll have more part options.

2 GTX 460s?
holy stuff what the forget why with $600 thats hard as stuff, can you reuse certain parts?

If you're reusing monitor keyboard & mouse okay
Hard Drive?

Not hard drive. In fact i took a stab at it :P

Do this motherboard instead.

You go on any website that sells computer hardware. Chances are that's the best rated motherboard on the site.
Just make sure you stick with 1333 though, if you decide to use this mobo instead.

It's good but it doesn't support my processor plus I can't afford it. D:

Please don't recommend something if you don't know what the forget you are talking about.
That's an INTEL motherboard. He wants an AMD processor. As well as many other things. forget.

Anyway.

HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185

Total $302

Features a reasonably good case, great 80+ bronze MODULAR PSU, a great quality mobo which has a chipset which is compatible with nVidia SLI, and good 8GB RAM and fast HDD.

Just do note that most PSUs within your budget won't have enough connections for your GPUs, but the GPUs come with adapters, MOLEX to 6-pin, which should leave you with just enough :)

Wait, with the motherboard. the 2 PCIe x16 slots are listed as (x16, x4). Am I supposed to be concerned/

Not of any real problem. If you want better, you'll have to most likely widen your budget a few dollars.

This was the next one that would run at 8x/8x. You will notice a small performance drop at 16x/4x, but it's actually really really small, something like 1%.

If you could, I'd recommend this:

Great chipset. I'd upgrade in the new year to a bulldozer CPU and bulldoze those Intel's up :D

The total with all of the pqts is 680. Not 600 :c. I don't use rebates

They are the best way to a great deal, seriously.
If you can't afford them up front, just buy everything bar the CPU, then obtain the awesomeness rebates, then buy the CPU with the rebates and your extra $40.

Also @ Ethan: Isn't Bulldozer like the performance of a i5 2500k and the cost of i7 2600k, it's a overclocking chip tbh i think, AMD are best at that

I checked your prices and the cheapest reasonable 1 GB geforce 460 was $170 from MSI, which is $340 for 2 cards. Conversely, the best AMD phenom II x4 for the price is the black edition at $130.  So that right there is $470. Now you have $130 for all other parts. This is completely unreasonable for a case, RAM, an HDD, a motherboard and a power supply.

Now realistically, getting 2 460's is pretty cost ineffective. You can get a card that is essentially 2 460's stuck together into one card for $385, but its still not that useful. Getting multiple graphics cards is pretty useless if you're getting the cheapest possible mobo, cpu, and 4GB of RAM, and your computer would honestly be a lot better if you just got 1 card and invested the money into other stuff.

Honestly, $600 is really tough to hit for a gaming computer, and basically I managed to hit $870 with the flexibility to work down. It would REALLY work out if you could somehow reuse your old HDD and case (which would bring you down to $710, and from there you could cut the ram from 8GB to 4GB to save $25 or maybe get a slightly lower end mobo for saving $40. If you did that, you would be down to $655, which is slightly over, but I'm guessing is doable.

If you want some help, go ahead and PM me or something and I'll help you out.

Props to Greekgeeker for helping me out work out this build.
