.22 pistols go something like 1250 FPS, and they can barely puncture you, and only kill you in the right spot.

I used to keep a hatchet hidden next to my bed, but easy to get to. Then I realized it put on a bad look for people who came in. Now I just keep a knife in my pillow and a baseball bat in the bedroom.
