I've been looking to get a new laptop, somewhere around $1,000. Currently I have an HP G71, and I'm quiet fond of HP's laptops. I'm not sure how well this can run games though. I'm basically looking for something that could possibly run Left 4 Dead 2 at highest settings with a framerate of 30FPS.

If you can suggest a better laptop, feel free to do so. I'm not very smart when it comes to graphics cards and processors, it's like a whole other language to me.

Getting the ASUS G74. Thanks guys.

Do you NEED a laptop? If not, you can get a really great desktop that can run all games perfectly for that price.

I'd prefer a laptop since I would be able to travel with it. I'm not sure about desktops though, since I have no idea if they can connect wirelessly to a router. I don't want to have to set up another modem and or router.

Desktops just seem complicated to me, while laptops have everything in them.

For $1,500 that seems like a pretty bad deal.

Desktops can connect wirelessly if you put a Wireless Adaptor that connects via PCI inside of it.

Also, for that price you can get things like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229232

Would I need to buy a monitor separately? Does the same company distribute monitors?

I'd really prefer a laptop though, if there is anything better than this. You can customize it's setup.

Wow, that thing is pricy, and it's no better than the laptops I posted for the same price.

Implying you can't customize a desktop.
They are the kings of customization.

Eh, I just looked up computers in that price range and saw that it was good, I didn't do too much digging.

Don't get an HP envy.

They are overpriced and the touchpads on them are loving terrible.

Yes, the HP fanboy to the maximum is telling you this.

Almost every HP laptop my family has owned has forgeted up majorly after a few years.

That's quite bad for the price. This one here is equal specs and is like half price:

Get one of these instead:

Which one of those would you say is the most powerful? The prices are very nice, especially the lenovo IdeaPad, but I'm not sure how to tell low-specs from high-specs.

My friend bought an HP laptop for roughly over $2k, broke within the first month and the ATI driver support was stuff.

Lenovo is rubbish. Asus are pretty good but they seldom release a computer that isn't hard on the eyes.

The laptop in the OP has decent specs. But I think what people seem to forget is, its not just about hardware. Its about the look, the feel, your attitude towards the brand, the size, the general quality and finish. Sometimes paying more for all of these factors makes the customer happier. Be sure to only spend money on a computer that you need as well, 6GB ram is really not that necessary for most people.
