Author Topic: C drive is full - Bullstuff  (Read 935 times)

My computer tells me my C-drive is full.
All 300Gb of it.
This s bullstuff since yesterday it was only at around 150GB full.
Somehow this starfish excuse of a computer managed to get 150Gb of files somewhere over a 1 night standby.
What the forget is this and how do I solve it?

inb4virus

maybe it's your appdata file

Just checked my Program Files, and that's 110GB, so that's not it.
Also, AppData folder is around 7GB, so none of that either

reformat, restart, explode etc.

are you able to see invisible files?

And HOLY loving stuff MY DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS ARE AT 150GB SOMEHOW.

You gotta check the filesize on your research torrents, dude.

I don't download research.

maybe this has something to do with V20
no you're stupid

if it has anything to do with v20 then everything is your own fault hehe

maybe this has something to do with V20
I dont think it's v20, might be a virus :P

I have V19 somewhere on this rig still.
Could be the cache file according to MegaScience, but I can't find it.
There is no Blockalnd folder in 'my documents' either.

Also;
The map documents and settings is 171GB, and the only file with a size of over 1Gb is my account, but that only has 41Gb?
How do I make invisible folders visible again?

  • Download windirstat.
  • Run windirstat. Use it to figure out where all of your hard drive space went. Delete large files you don't need anymore, like random videos or old program installers .
  • Empty your downloads folder.
  • Move what documents you can onto dropbox or google docs.
  • Download an archive program like 7-Zip or IZArc if you don't already have one.
  • Store files you don't really use but want to keep around in archives. You can't really access them when they're archived but they will take up less space.
  • Download CCleaner and use it to uninstall programs you don't use. You can also clean up browser cookies and stuff but those don't take up a whole lot of space.
  • Once your computer is all cleaned up, defragment the drive since deleting all those files will leave it in a pretty fragmented state. I use Degraggler because I think it's a bit more useful than the defragmenting program Windows comes with.
EDIT: To show hidden files in Windows 7, in Windows Explorer click organize, then click Folder and search options. Go to the view tab and turn on show hidden folders.

Mister computer decided to say that Windirstat is not a valid Win32 file.
I'll try the others first now.

Also, very mysterious, managed to unhide the files.
So the map documents and settings is 170GB, and all of the maps in it are about 50Gb together.
Including hidden files.
Where is that 120GB hiding?
