alright so
there's this problem on our mid-term review that says to turn "the sum of the square of x and 34" into an equation or whatever
I think the solution is x2 + 34
but she says it's (x+34)2
who is right?

I'm pretty sure you're right.

I think your right, I wish I payed more attention in math class.
:c

It can be perceived both ways, the question is worded poorly.

what?
the sum of the square of x and 34

it can be interpreted in those 2 ways

now, if they said something like
"the sum of the square of x plus 24"

you would be correct.

You're right.

She would be right if she said:

"The square of the sum of x and 34"

Both ways are correct due to the wording.

but saying "sum" before "square" in the sentence makes it my way, wouldn't it?
(x + 34)2 would be "the square of the sum of x and 34"
right?

Wait, forget, both ways.

curse meeeee!

I'm trying to solve this, but I come in conflict with those two answers.

I'm leaning towards your answer, Night.

Its worded badly, but I believe you are correct.

i'd go with your teacher.
she'll most likely grade it correct if you do it like that and not your way
