Now go sell the iPhone and use the money to buy an Android, preferably a Motorola Droid Bionic (if your carrier is Verizon)

Then have your mom pay for half of your data and text using Google Voice or another free service.

Don't work that way when you get locked back into a 2 year contract renewal. Can't remove calling and too expensive to close the contract.

It was only a jest. That's somewhat the route I took. I would suggest spending the extra money upgrading your computer and pre-ording Battlefield 3.
