Earlier in the topic you mentioned getting to the next bonfire.

I assume those are save points which brings about the question: Is the game open world or linear?

Bonfires are not savepoints. The game autosaves constantly.

Bonfires are for restoring health/flask, and doing many other things.

It's not open world but not exactly linear either.

Sounds like the Witcher, would it be accurate to say the level setup is also like the Witcher?

Never played the Witcher.

You get souls by killing things in this game.
Souls are used for:
Spending on stats to level up. (each stat raised adds one level)
Buying/repairing items
Probably other stuff that I don't remember.

I meant level as the world space. "level design"

and the witcher has like individual areas which are open to run around in but you don't have access to the whole world at all times.
It was divided into chapters, chapter one was in one area, chapter two was in another but also you could go to another area, etc.

Well, it is divided up by areas, but they aren't chapters, and most of the areas you just walk to and it doesn't go to any loading screen.

There's also different pathways to different areas, some guarded by bosses and some are through secret walls.
You can go back to anywhere you want as well.

oh ok
sounds good.
this game looks very nice aesthetically, by the way. Everything about it seems good but I still don't like the idea of how difficult it is. I guess I could get used to it.

The point of the difficulty is so you actually have to try.

I don't mind trying but, "Die in 2 hits from pretty much everything" seems way overpowered on the enemies' part. " die and go back about 30 minutes, lose all your XP, and reset all the monsters." sounds terrible to experience, especially when it is over and over again. Which seems to be the case, based on "I think I have died at least 100 times and I am only about 30 minutes in the game if I were to not have ever died, but it took me like 5 hours to get there."

Because games are so much more fun when enemies take one hit to kill and you take fifty.

"in 2 hits" was an exaggeration.

When you die and lose all your souls, you can go pick it back up as long as you don't die again before you do that.
Even if you died by jumping off a cliff. Your souls will be on reachable surface.

It was much more punishing in Demon's Souls than it is in Dark Souls.
In Demon's Souls, when you died, the enemies also got harder on top of them coming back and you losing all your souls.

no
but enemies that take 10 hits to kill when you take like 15 and there are a couple of those enemies around it is.

Stop loving pegging me for a guy who plays stuff on easiest difficulty and stuff like that. I like a challenge, just not a near insurmountable challenge.

I finally know how to play, after making my 3rd guy since I was pumping dex thinking it makes me dodge faster when it is endurance, my 3rd guy just beat the bell gargoyles first try at level 9 and the stone scorpion guy right after when my 2 level 18s I forgeted up on never beat them after like 30 tries. Feels good to not suck any more.

Bump.

Got the game for PS3.
SO loving good.
