Thanks! I really hope I can buy this. I have the money but I will be sort on cash afterwards.

My next plans would be:
1. Get a graphics card.
2. Get a CD-DVD drive.
3. Get Windows 7.

What order should I get these?
All depends on your priorities and budgets.
DVD drive should be the same time as 7, to install it, although you can reuse a DVD drive if you have one sitting around. They are only like $18 anyway new though.
If you like to game, I'd still buy 7 first as you can't game with a good GPU very effectively on Linux, unless you have that program that allows you to boot into Windows thru Linux, which is pointless if you own a copy of Windows anyway, just dual boot.

DVD Drive > 7 > GPU IMO.

So a GPU wouldn't run games good even if it has drivers for Linux?
EDIT: If I got a Windows 7 pack that comes with 32 and 64-bit, could I use the 32-bit on my old PC and the 64-bit on the new one?

Depends. OEM packs have one use, and standard packs that come in flash containers usually have 3 uses. I have a Vista Ultimate that I installed on 3 computers fine.

I was talking about the flash container ones that come with 32 and 64-bit disks, so it would work?

LAST QUESTIONS I AM ASKING.
for now

Also:
In my experience, yes, although they don't like you to install it 3 times. I believe the functionality is there just in case you install a new motherboard or something on the same computer.
Also, yes it would, but then the game would have to be compatible with Linux. Not many are.

Thanks again. I just hope I can convince my dad to buy me a monitor early.

There are no cores to unlock on a dual core seeing as it only has 2 cores.

Most Phenom dual-cores are actually quad-cores with locked cores, essentially, you're "unlocking" those cores to get a quad-core.

Also, I hate shipping. I ordered all my parts last week, but i have to wait until this weekend to build them as my hard drive is coming this Thursday D:

Not all Phenom II X2's though.

Oh lol, I thought I put "most" in the post, well whatever.

Other than that, any ideas on how to make the torturous wait of all my parts coming lessen?

Any ideas on a good laptop that would be able to run Portal 2 on at least medium settings? ;c
In maybe the 500$-680$ price range

Although AMD is good for budget builds, go with the i3, reason is, later you can upgrade to an i5-2500K, which beats all of AMD's processors.

Alright so,

Getting the gigabyte you recommended. I'll buy the i5 whenever it goes back in stock and when I get Christmas money

I don't need the system running as soon as I get it. I have a okay system for now, but I want to take time and buy all this so atleast I have some of it here.

How about this?
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145532 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145299
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846
PUS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371016
That first HDD is good for the price.
The CPU, like I said to that Lego guy. Up to you if you want.
And about the PSU, good quality but it's more costly for not much better. I'd stick with the CM eXtreme.

I'm now looking for a custom-built computer that costs up to $2500-3000.
A computer that is good for gaming.

Please.
