Good fight nVidia :P

oh god lol, think about the 7990. O_O
The 7970 is also at the same pricepoint as a 580 lol... best bang for your buck.

BTW, I have a slight problem. When I'm playing Battlefield 3, or any other games, sometimes my mouse is jerky, like, when I move the mouse, my movement in the game goes like one at a time. This also happens on the windows desktop when from time to time.

None have been released for the public yet. They will be released in January. Or at least Q1 2012

Hell yeah. It even quite honestly is within margin of error on a 590 as well; scary.
With overclocking, man. It can reach like 1200/1600 clocks. Then it sometimes does own, like on BF3 ultra 1080p:

GTX580: 57FPS avg
HD7970: 69FPS avg
HD7970 overclocked: 81FPS avg
HD6990: 82FPS avg.

In Dirt 3, despite it being sponsored by nVidia, it still jumps ahead of the GTX 590 when overclocked!

Yeah.

Is your mouse wireless?

Only some lower end cards like 7450 or whatever (recycled from last series 65XX), and the 7970 is the first of the new architecture. The 7950 will be released in the second week of January. It will be very interesting to see whether it comes on top of the 580 as well. My guess is that it will, by a pretty healthy margin. And, if the 7970 is competitively priced with the 580, and even the 7950 beats it, it will be considerably cheaper, who would buy a 580?
Funny thing is, apparently nVidia only releases their new series late next year. They have to wait that whole time before they can even come out with something competitive.

is the 7970 a dual GPU card?

is the 7970 a dual GPU card?
Nope :D
The 6990 and the 590 are the only dual GPU cards there.
The 590 is two 580s, the 6990 is two 6970s.
The 580 and 6970 were each brands fastest GPUs, but now that AMD released the 7970...

what's the best you can get for £300? (for my friend)

nvidia better step their stuff up or I'm buying a 7970/7990

whoa
I want a 6990
Thing is, like I said, a 6990 is two 6970s on the same PCB. The 7970 is the next generation 6970.
You can only put 2 6990s in crossfire as there is a 4 GPU limit on both Crossfire and SLI. You can put 4 7970s together as they are single GPU cards.
In February, they are releasing the 7990, which is the next gen version of the 6990. The only problem with these cards is that because of the heat and the form factor, having to squeeze two high performance cards in to one, they have to downclock them.
