How are you going to get a PSU for a new card when your dad only allows getting a GPU?

Good job.
My dad's exactly like that as well, but explaining it calmly and in a way he can understand is the best way to even attempt to get an upgrade. If you've got a stuff power supply but can't upgrade it, don't bother upgrading at all.

That's exactly what I said, then you came in with a handicapped post, I then called you out, you then agree with my first post.

Again, good job.

How did I come in with a handicapped post? I was stating if you get an older generation card that the bottleneck wouldn't be as bad as it would with a new card. You immediately stated I implied she wouldn't have to get a new PSU for a high-end card of an older generation, when I did not. You're in the wrong here.

A bottleneck doesn't loving matter if you don't have power to run the computer at all.

I pointed out everything you would need/want to have a powerful computer from a prebuilt, then you came in "Oh you could just get an old GPU", so I said "No, you still need a PSU', then you say "Yeah that's what I said!"

My current card (GT 220) ran on a 300W PSU inside of an HP prebuilt. It runs all of my games that I want to play on medium or higher with little to no stutter. Thus again proving you don't need a high-end card, even a low-end card can run games decently without taking much power. Please stop trying to make me out to be an idiot over something stupid like this, I said something wrong and I accept my mistake.

That's all I wanted.

Thanks

But OT of what you actually said, getting a low-end, already outdated card, is more of defeating the purpose of 'upgrading'

Assuming she doesn't want heavy gaming without the hassle of spending more money on a new computer, moving everything important over, reinstalling essential programs, it's actually sensible.

It is not.

How is it logical, or sensible, to spend money on a card that will need replacing next year?  Rather than waiting that year, and at the end of that year maybe getting a job to afford a real computer, that won't be outdated in another year.

It's obvious that most people will pick the first one, because society nowadays stands on the grounds of getting what they want when they want, only to be left disappointed.  But that's not in relation to this thread.

I am considering buying windows 8 for my custom desktop but all the touchscreen monitors are at least 400 bucks. Is there a place to get them cheap?

why do you need touchscreen

why do you need touchscreen

So I can use windows 8 the way it's meant to be used

I know someone who has a touchscreen monitor and he said it was cool at first, but after a month he stopped using it and just went back to using a mouse full-time.
The novelty wears of pretty quickly on those things.

I agree. Honestly, who wants to have to keep moving their arm in the air to use their computer. Desktop mice are bad enough, I think if more people got used to using trackpads they'd actually prefer them.
